534-17-8 is a multipurpose silicone surfactant commonly used in the chemical and process engineering industries, as well as in various other consumer products. It is a versitile molecule that functions as a wetting agent and solubilizer due to its ability to form micelles, as well as providing emulsification, de-foaming, and anti-settling properties.
It is a highly derivative of polydimethylsiloxane and is a viscous, non-volatile liquid, with a melting point of -85°C and boiling point of 195°C. As a surfactant, it helps to reduce the surface tension of liquids and improves the wetting, dispersing, and penetration of solutions. This makes it ideal for use in solvents, as it prevents solution stratification and separation, and enhances the solubility of insoluble compounds.
The compound can also be used for scour baths and detergents due to its low surface tension and high hydrophobicity, as well as in emulsion polymerisations due to its emulsifying and stabilising properties. It can also be used to inhibit coalescence of polymer particles, to stabilise foam, and to lubricate textiles.
534-17-8 is compatible with many other compounds such as solvents, soaps and other surfactants, and it can be used in a wide variety of applications, from household products to products used in the process engineering industry. As such, it is an essential ingredient for a multitude of processes and products, and is an invaluable substance for the chemical and process engineering industries.
