2-Methyl-2-Pentanol, also known as 2-Methylpentanol, or 2-methyl-2-butanol, and commonly known as CAS NO. 423-55-2, is a colorless liquid with a faint petroleum-like odor. It is insoluble in water but soluble in alcohol, ether, and acetone. 


2-Methyl-2-Pentanol is used in the manufacture of surfactant, thinners, coating intermediates, and other organic synthesis. It can also be used as an intermediate product for the manufacture of rubber chemicals and other organic products.


2-Methyl-2-Pentanol is highly flammable and should be stored and handled with extreme caution. It should be kept in an adequately ventilated container, away from heat sources, sparks, open flames, and any other material with combustion potential. Safety resources such as personal protective equipment, eye protection, and skin protection, should also be used when working with this material. 


Inhalation of 2-Methyl-2-Pentanol may cause dizziness, nausea, or headaches.
