Description: Ethyleneamines are a group of chemicals classified as amines. The most common types of ethyleneamines are Ethanolamine and Triethanolamine. Ethanolamine (monoethanolamine, MEA) is a clear liquid with an ammonia-like odour and taste. It is hygroscopic and freely soluble in water and ethanol. Triethanolamine (TEA) is a viscous, hygroscopic liquid with a mild amine odour.
Uses: Ethyleneamines are widely used in applications such as cosmetics, personal care products, rust-inhibiting corrosion control, metalworking additives and metal treatment solutions, surface active agents, degreasing agents, metal cleaners, wetting agents, rust removal, paint removers, metal polishing and coating, metal finishing, and as a gas purifying agent. It is also used as an intermediate in the manufacture of surfactants and in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals.
Safety: Ethyleneamines are toxic when swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin in large amounts. Eye exposure can irritate and cause inflammation. Low level exposure to these chemicals may cause skin irritation and lung irritation. Avoid prolonged contact with the chemicals and wear protective gear such as gloves, face shields and protective clothing.
