2-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride is primarily used as a catalyst in various chemical reactions, such as the hydrolysis of esters and amides. It is also used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and other organic compounds. It is often used in combination with other catalysts in order to increase the efficiency of the reaction.


2-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride is also used as an electrolyte in rechargeable lithium batteries. It is a highly effective electrolyte, as it is able to quickly transport ions between the two electrodes. This allows for a fast, efficient charging and discharging process, and helps to reduce the battery’s self-discharge rate.
