Cas No. 707-35-7 is a colorless to light yellow liquid at room temperature known as Tropolone. It is a heterocyclic organic compound containing a soluble ring of six carbon atoms, four oxygen atoms and a nitrogen atom. Tropolone is used in the chemical industry as a starting material in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and dyes.

Tropolone is used in a variety of applications in the chemical industry including varieties of polyurethane foams, polyatomic ethers, polysulfides, polyester resins, polyurethane adhesives, polyethylene terephthalate and polycarbonate polyols. It is also used as a sensitizer for photography and in the production of UV filters.

As a strong oxidizing agent, Tropolone is used as a catalyst in the oxidation of alkenes to epoxides and in a variety of other selective oxidation reactions. In rubber production, it is used as an additive for increased oxidation stability, as well as for improved storage stability and surface finish.

In addition to its industrial applications, Tropolone is used in home care and consumer products applications, where it serves as a mild, water-soluble preservative and antibacterial agent. As a flavor, fragrance and preservative inhibitor, it is also used in the food industry.

Tropolone is unstable in presence of light and must be kept in a tightly closed container, preferably in a dark and cool place. It should not be exposed to temperatures above 50°C as it may decompose violently. Extinguishing agents should be suitable for the typr of fire and should be kept handy while handling this specific substance.
