2-Amino-2-methyl-1-propanol is an important chemical intermediate in the production of various compounds. It can be used for making azo dyes, esters, surfactants, lubricants and other organic chemicals. It is also used as an intermediate for making pharmaceuticals as well as agricultural chemicals.


2-Amino-2-methyl-1-propanol can be produced in a variety of ways such as condensation of ethylene glycol and formaldehyde, the distillation of an equimolar mixture of ethanol and water, and the reaction of an amine and an alcohol. It is a flammable liquid and has a flash point of 81°C.
