Tetrahydrofurfurylamine (CAS No. 53774-47-3) is an organic compound that is a derivative of furfuryl alcohol. It is a colorless liquid with an ammonia-like odor and is miscible with water, alcohol and ether.
Tetrahydrofurfurylamine is used in a variety of chemical processes, including as an intermediate in the manufacture of rubber and plastics, in the production of pharmaceuticals, as a corrosion inhibitor, as a reactant in the manufacture of furfural and other furan derivatives, and as a solvent for polyurethane foam. It is also used as a solvent for polyester, polyamide and polyolefin resins, as well as for the production of synthetic rubber, polymers and plastics.
Tetrahydrofurfurylamine can also be used as a fuel additive and as an additive in lubricants and greases. It is also used in the production of polyamides, polyesters and polyurethanes, and in the manufacture of printing inks.
Tetrahydrofurfurylamine is highly flammable and should be handled with extreme caution. It is harmful if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through the skin, and should therefore be kept away from children and pets. In addition, contact with eyes, skin and clothing should be avoided, and protective gloves, eye protection and respirators should be worn when handling this chemical.
