2-[(2-Methoxyethoxy)methyl]tetrahydrofuran (CAS NO:52217-57-9) is a colorless, volatile organic compound and belongs to the class of heterocyclic ethers. It is a versatile and important intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, dyes, and other organic compounds. Additionally, it is used as a solvent and as an additive in polymers applications.


This compound is highly soluble in water and has a boiling point of 51°C and a melting point of -79°C. Its chemical formula is C6H12O3 and its molecular weight is 132.17 g/mol.


Upon exposure to the atmosphere, this compound reacts with ozone to produce ethylene glycol and formaldehyde. As a result, it is important to store it in a tightly sealed container away from direct sunlight and heat.
