CAS No. 303186-14-3 is a formaldehyde-based resin used in the manufacture of adhesives and coatings. It is commonly used in the manufacture of sheet, film, paper and fabric products.
This resin is a formaldehyde based material which is often referred to as a ‘diphenylolpropane’ resin. It is comprised of three main components – formaldehyde, methylol-groups and diphenylol-groups which are linked together in a complex network. The resulting resin has excellent adhesive and coating properties.
CAS no. 303186-14-3 offers a variety of benefits in its use. These include good resistance to water and chemicals, low temperature properties, excellent adhesion properties to a variety of substrates, and a superior electrical insulation capability. The resin is also notable for its low smoke generation characteristics upon burning.
Due to these beneficial properties, the material finds application in the manufacture of laminates, electrical insulation materials, woodworking adhesives, paper and film coatings, and as a primer for automotive and signage applications. It is also used as an additive in self-leveling flooring compounds.
The resin is available in two forms: liquid and solid. The liquid form is a thin, light colored liquid which is used for applications such as dip coating and curtain coating processes. The solid form is a granular, flakey material which is used for powder coating and lamination processes. The resin is also available in a 50% solids content version in both liquid and solid forms.
Although CAS No. 303186-14-3 offers a range of advantages, it also has some limitations. These include poor hot melt adhesion, prone to degradation in UV environments, and requires a very well-controlled manufacturing process.
