Synthesis


3-(9H-Carbazole-9-yl)-9H-carbazole can be synthesized using a two-step process. In the first step, a precursor compound is reacted with an alkylating agent to produce a carbazole derivative. In the second step, the carbazole derivative is treated with a reducing agent to produce the final product.


Physical and Chemical Properties


3-(9H-Carbazole-9-yl)-9H-carbazole is a white to off-white powder with a melting point of 155-160°C. It has a molecular weight of 305.4 g/mol and a solubility of 0.05 g/mL in water. It is insoluble in most organic solvents and has a density of 1.38 g/cm3. The compound is stable to heat, light, and air.


Uses


3-(9H-Carbazole-9-yl)-9H-carbazole is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of a wide range of compounds, including pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and dyes. It is also used as a starting material for the synthesis of fluorinated compounds.
