N,N-Dimethylformamide (CAS No. 14221-01-3), also known as DMF, is a colorless, volatile and hygroscopic solvent with a boiling point of 153℃ and a flash point of 66℃. It is primarily used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and specialty chemicals. DMF has a wide range of applications due to its low volatility, high solubility, low surface tension and its ability to dissolve a wide variety of organic compounds. It is also used as a reaction medium in the synthesis of organic compounds and as a polymerization solvent.

In the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, DMF is used as a solvent for the production of active ingredients, as an extraction medium in the purification of products and as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. It is also used in the production of agrochemicals as a solvent for pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. DMF is an excellent solvent for polymers, it is used in the production of polymers such as polyamides and polyurethanes.

In the specialty chemical industry, N,N-Dimethylformamide is used as a reactive extraction medium, a reaction medium and as a reaction solvent. It is used to synthesize organic compounds, in the production of specialty polymers, coatings and adhesives, and in the production of electroplating solutions. DMF is also used in the production of photographic emulsions, lithographic solutions and as a solvent for dyes and pigments.

DMF is a hazardous substance and should be handled with caution. Inhalation of DMF vapors can cause irritation to the nose and throat and may cause nausea, dizziness and headaches. Prolonged exposure to the vapors can lead to more serious effects such as central nervous system depression and kidney toxicity. Safety measures should be taken when handling DMF.
