It is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis, particularly in the formation of carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds. It is also used in the synthesis of polymers and other materials. It is a mild reducing agent, and can be used to reduce aldehydes and ketones to alcohols. It is stable and can be stored at room temperature.
