CAS No. 12030-49-8 is a white crystalline powder, commonly known as Hydrogen Sulfide. It is a colorless, highly flammable, toxic gas with a characteristic odor of rotten eggs. It is used in the production of sulfuric acid, dyeing and tanning processes, and as a reducing agent in the manufacture of rubber and plastics. It is also used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, as a reagent in analytical chemistry, and as a preservative for food and beverages.


In the chemical industry, Hydrogen Sulfide is used in the production of sulfuric acid, a common industrial chemical. It is also used in the manufacture of fertilizers, dyes, tanning agents, and rubber. In the electronics industry, Hydrogen Sulfide is used to etch circuit boards. In the food industry, it is used as a preservative and flavor enhancer.


Hydrogen Sulfide is a corrosive and toxic gas, and its concentrations must be carefully monitored in the workplace. It is highly flammable and, when heated, it can form an explosive mixture with air. For this reason, it must be handled with extreme caution and stored in a tightly sealed container away from sources of ignition.


Hydrogen Sulfide has a boiling point of -60.2°C, a melting point of -83.1°C, and a density of 1.21 g/cm³. It is soluble in water, ethanol, ether, and chloroform, and is slightly soluble in benzene. It is an irritant to the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract, and can cause nausea, dizziness, headache, and unconsciousness. Inhaling high concentrations of the gas can be fatal.
