Product Description
Cas No: 1143-72-2 is a chemical compound that is commonly used in a variety of different industries, particularly the chemical, plastics, and pharmaceutical industries. It is a water-soluble solid, which is light yellowish in colour, and has a molecular weight of 196.17 g/mol. The chemical structure of this compound consists of an azobenzene group with hydrogen, chlorine, and carbon. It is also known as o-Chloroaniline, and is widely used as an intermediate in the manufacture of dyes, agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and plasticizers.
In terms of chemical properties, Cas No: 1143-72-2 is slightly soluble in cold water, soluble in hot water and in alcohol, and insoluble in ether and benzene. Its melting point is between 118 and 120°C, and its Boiling point is 203-205°C. When heated, it has a weakly acidic odour (likely due to the aniline portion), and its vapour density is 3.78 (air = 1). Its density is 1.34 g/cm3.
From a health perspective, Cas No: 1143-72-2 is generally regarded as moderately toxic, with all known routes of exposure potentially causing harm, provided that the exposure is sufficient. Despite this, it is not classified as a hazardous material.
When used in plastic and rubber production, this compound is used as a plasticizer and stabiliser, due to its low plasticizing temperature and low viscosity. In pharmaceutical production, Cas No: 1143-72-2 is often seen as an intermediate in the manufacture of pyridine compound drugs, as well as the production of sulfonamides, microbiostatic agents, HIV antiviral agents, and more. In the dye industry, where it is mostly used in the manufacture of disperse dyes and pigmented coatings, it is used as a colorant and a corrosion inhibitor.
Due to its relatively low cost, usage of Cas No: 1143-72-2 is quite prevalent in all the industries it is used in, although it is slowly being phased out. Nevertheless, it remains a useful and important intermediate in a number of chemical processes and products.
